JOHN R. MATTINGLY

Partner and Director

John is a Partner and Director at Mattingly & Malur. He represents a variety of Fortune 500 companies, venture capitalists and, in particular, has a strong reputation working with Japanese companies and law firms.

His experiences includes managing and developing global patent portfolios for large companies, providing infringement and invalidity opinions, litigation support, and his experience has proved to be successful in post-grant proceedings.

While working with startups and venture capitalists he has experience counseling startups from early proof of concept stages, early round investments, and through successful acquisitions and sales of their IP portfolios.

John also regularly works with in-house counsel to discuss infringement and design-around strategies.

He was raised in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., and Mr. Mattingly graduated from the University of Maryland and the Northern Virginia Law School, where he was president of the student bar association. John lives with his wife near Annapolis, Maryland where he volunteers as the longtime public address announcer for the local high school sports programs.
